Competition Rules:

Team Criteria:

Teams must consist of at least 6 people (No maximum number set)

Each team must provide one judge for the competition (The only criteria for being a judge is that they must be able to determine if there was at least 60% swing in the routines. Therefore, they will have to be relatively familiar with swing dancing.

Team members can either register for the event or pay the admission price at the door for the Saturday night dance. All team members will be allowed to register at the discounted "Student Rate".

Team registration: $50
CASH PRIZES TO WINNERS
Team Registration deadline: February 14th

This year we are having an overall Battle Champion, and a Collegiate Battle Champion. Only teams from colleges will be eligible to win the title of Collegiate Champion. Collegiate teams must consist of currently enrolled student (graduate or undergraduate) of the university.

The team winners will be announced near the conclusion of the main dance.

2 Divisions

Team Choreography: Must be a choreographed routine involving entire team. Any music genre you want, not to exceed 3 minutes. Routine must be 60% swing (any form of swing, including solo jazz steps).

Strictly Swing: One couple from each team will dance together to 2 songs of the DJs choice. One song will be medium tempo and the other will be fast! Each couple will be judged against each other and racked and stacked. All swing styles are acceptable. ANYTHING GOES! Think Jack N Jill, and you've got the right idea. (Teams may submit a different couple for the medium and fast tempo songs).

A note about venues: The Baum Opera House will NOT be available for practice for teams during the dinner break. If you are interested in practicing at Elegance in Dance, the team will be responsible for the floor cost ($15) and will need to coordinate with either Russell or Jean regarding use of that venue. The organizers WILL NOT make special amendments for any specific team - it is ultimately the team's responsibility to find and use practice venues.

Jack and Jill rules:

1. There must be at least 10 leads and 10 follows registered.

2. There are no other stinkin' rules.

The prelims will be prior to the main dance, and the Final will be at LATE NIGHT.  The final couples will be announced along with the winners of the team competition near the end of the main dance. Numbers for JnJ will be in the registration packet, and must be worn at all times in a clearly visible area for the judges during the prelims.  During the final, there will only be one rotation, and the partner you are paired with will be your ONLY partner during finals. Since this is the case only the leads will be required to wear numbers for finals.

The Preliminaries will be all-skate format only, with each heat getting 3 songs: 1 slow to mid tempo (120-150 bpm), 1 mid tempo (150-180), and fast (180-210). Finals will be done in an all skate and jam format with 3 songs, the 2 all skates being mid tempo (140-180) and the jam being fast (180-220). Each contestant will be given 8 8-counts during the jam, and will only go through one rotation before finishing the song as an all skate.
